My Shepherd, My Comforter

My Shepherd, You are my Comforter! When I am in the dark valley, You are with me.  You guide me. You protect me. Because You surround me, I do not need to fear! God, You are my Comforter!

Jesus, may Your words guide me. I pray I'll indulge each morsel of Your Scriptures. I pray Your Holy Spirit will teach me to apply each sweet Word to my life!

I thank You, Jesus, for Your Rod and Staff which are Your Word -- the Word of God.  I especially thank You for David and all the  Psalms You inspired him to write!  Each one is a reminder of who You are!  Thank You for this precious treasure!

Sweet Shepherd, even though ______ is in the dark valley, light his/her path.  May _____ feel Your Spirit surrounding him/her and all his/her fear fade away.  May ______ find comfort in Your Word; comfort for his/her heart.  We ask this in Your name, Jesus, according to the Father's will. Amen

Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

My Strength, My Fortress

O Lord, my strength and my fortress, You are my refuge in times of distress.  You are my Safe House when storms rage against me!

Father, I want to seek you with all my heart! Each day, I desire to be filled with Your Holy Spirit!

Thank You for this walk with  You this week! You are very easy to talk to!  Thank You for making it easy for us to approach You!

Jesus, in Your name, we pray ____ will not possess false gods that won't do him/her any good!  ____ can only find refuge in You and in You alone!  Only You can be the strength ____ needs to face the trials of daily living.  We pray Your will be done in all our lives! Amen

Jeremiah 16:19
Lord, my strength and my fortress,
my refuge in time of distress,
to you the nations will come
from the ends of the earth and say,
“Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods,
worthless idols that did them no good.

Vivian's #SayWhat

The first time a good friend of mine asked me "Vivian, what ministry is God calling you to do?" I looked at her and said "God calling me? No way!"  That was the beginning of something that isn't complete yet!

Over the course of a year or so, godly friends questioned me about God calling me into the ministry.  Now, I was like "The day God does that, the church will fall down!"  In my mind (at that time), I was thinking ministry meant minister or pastor or clergy.  To me, these people were nuts and I knew I didn't have what it would take for God to ask me to join in any thing, no longer join the "ministry".

Long story short, God cornered me twice. The most significant moment was at work.  I was entering the first floor ladies' restroom to clean it.  I felt this heavy presence.  I knew Who that was!  I had felt His strong Presence before when He claimed me as His daughter.  I knew the strength in this Presence.  I knew the purity in this Presence.  I knew the familiarity of this Presence.  God does speak audibly.  It's hard to explain.  It's not like everyone else can hear Him.  It's Him speaking in my heart's ear.  My spirit and His Spirit.  It's an inside audible Voice.  It's not ALL the time because He uses other venues (that's for another story!).  He made it clear He wanted me in the ministry.  I still wasn't convinced He had the right person.  So, I pulled a Gideon!  I laid a "fleece" out before God.  If this is really what You are wanting, sometime within the next hour if I hear these words or phrases 'Is God calling you to preach?" "Is God calling you into the ministry?" then I'll know beyond the shadow of doubt this is what You want. He said "Fair enough" and the heaviness of the Presence lifted. Well ... I posted on Facebook something that eluded to the fleece but not details as to what was going on.  It was an average post on Facebook that pretty much said "God is NUTS!!"  I didn't mention the Presence.  I didn't ministry. Nothing like that.  Most of my friends tried guessing what was going on but weren't in the ball park.  Within moments of the post and laughing at the guesses, I received a private message from a friend. "When are you going to admit God is calling you to preach?"

"I give up, LORD! I am YOUR'S!"

Now, preaching isn't the area God is calling me to that I'm aware of BUT I do know I'm on track with whatever His idea of ministry looks like.  Ministry ... Ladies, listen ... read this very carefully ... Ministry is serving others.  Ministry is ministering to the needs of someone.  Ministry is being Jesus to someone.  Preaching is only a dimes worth a part of ministry.  It is one thing in a sea of thousands of things.  A ministry can be as simple as sitting with your best friend while she tells you her marriage is falling a part ... that moment when you reach across and take her hand to offer her comfort ... when you pray with her.  Ministry isn't just this "gotta get behind the pulpit and preach God's Word today".  Ministry is obeying that command Jesus gave "Love one another as I have loved you!"

So, what is God asking of you? What are you saying "#saywhat  to?

PS ... Yes. I've had to do SOME speaking!  And YES, I'm working on becoming some fancy title within my church denomination.  It will require training. God qualifies those He calls.

Give My Fingers Skill for Battle

ALL praise to You, The Lord!  You are my Rock!  You are my Fortress!

Lord, prepare me for war; give my fingers skill for battle! For my struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  I cannot stand unless I'm full immersed in You!! Safely hidden behind You, my Shield!  May my heart yield to the Holy Spirit's instruction.

One of the enemy's weapons is ingratitude. He's always pointing to what I don't have.  Lord Jesus, I want to point to what You have given me!  I want to give You an offering of thanksgiving! Thank You for ________________________________.  (Mine: Thank You for Beth.  She is my precious jewel, a true gift from You! I thank You for bring her the distance You have traveled with her.  I can still hear the words of the school psychiatrist "We may have to bus her to Briarwood to learn basic skills." "What basic skills?" I asked. "Oh, like eating with a fork." I remember the feeling of dismay as they picked my child apart.  You know what? You were with me the whole time! And You have been with her! You have been so faithful to her and used her to sharpen me.  You used her to create in Charles empathy and the ability to see others with strange ways as human beings.  Thank You for using her to kick the enemy, for she has amazed ALL who have worked with her over the years. That's YOUR doing! I thank You for Beth's Autism!)

Lord, we come together to stand in the gap for _______. Be ______ shield.  Shower him/her with Your faithful love.  It is our desire Your Spirit will draw _______ to take refuge in You and he/she will know You as his/her Fortress!  Lord, we so desire Your will in the lives of each name we are lifting before You today!  Hear us! Hear our prayers!  In Your name, Jesus, we pray Your will be done and not our own. Amen

Psalm 144:1-2
Praise be to the Lord my Rock,
who trains my hands for war,
    my fingers for battle.
He is my loving God and my fortress,
    my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield, in whom I take refuge,
    who subdues peoples under me.

Ephesians 6:12

2 AM?

I'd like to say I'm not up at 2 AM!! I have figured out how to schedule a post!!!

I'm so happy!

I schedule the prayer post because those are the ones I know what day they will go out on. I write them in advance on paper. Then two of the ladies receive them by Email and 10 receive them by text. When I first started, I was thinking of the prayer while sending the text. THAT was time consuming! I took a week off from the Prayer Squad and dove into studying 5 of God's attributes. I became so filled that week that I knew I had to plan the prayer in advance! I'm usually only a day or two out ahead but that's ok.

I'm excited about tomorrow's prayer! And tomorrow is when by post for the blog hop will post too. I'm really enjoying this online Bible study thru Proverbs 31!

I Desire To Dwell In You!

You are my refuge and my fortress! My God, in You I will trust!

Lord, forgive me for when I choose to do things my way!  May I choose daily to dwell in the shelter of the Most High! May I choose to rest in Your shadow!

Thank You for Your faithfulness! You hear me when I call upon You and You answer! Thank You!

Dearest Jesus, we pray for ______.  May ______ not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day.  Shield _____ with Your faithfulness!  We pray ______ will choose to make You his/her resting place.  Your will; Your way is how we pray. Amen

Psalm 91

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation.

With All My Heart/Strength

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5

What does it mean to me to love God with ALL my heart, soul, and strength?

One day, Jesus was asked, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" and Jesus answered, "What does the Law say? How do you read it?" The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Luke 10:25-37 for this scene)

The key phrase Jesus ask is "How do you read it?" Jesus is a teacher! A good teacher ask questions that make us think.  If you notice, Jesus didn't say to "love God with all your mind" the man said it!  The man read between the lines and realized he had to love God with even his thoughts!

Love the Lord with all my heart, all my soul, all my strength: How do I read that?  What does it mean to me?

1) It means I must make a daily choice to live surrendered to God's will. The heart is the well spring of life!  My mouth will utter my heart's desires. In order for my life to point to God, He has to have FULL occupancy of my heart.  He has to occupy my every corner and crevice of my heart.

2) It means I must daily yield full control of my will.  The soul is the very essence of what I am.  My passions, desires, dreams, thoughts.  I must give Him all of that! My passions traded in for His passions. My desires traded in for His desires. My dreams traded in for His plans. My thoughts focused on Him and not me.

3)  It means I must make a priority change.  Where does my strength come from? My strength comes from the Lord ... OR does it?  To me, strength has a double role here.  There is PHYSICAL strength and there is SPIRITUAL strength.
*Physical. I have struggled long with my weight.  In March 2012, I weighed 265 pounds.  In November of 2012, I weighed 215 pounds.  I NOW weigh 245 pounds.  In Dec 2012, I took on a night job.  The kids father had stopped paying child support in August 2012.  I needed a part time job to go with day job.  Going from 430 am till 10:30 pm is a LONG day. I started munching again. I was more tired and physically stressed.  Once Spring 2013 came along, I paid off credit card debt with the income tax return! I FELT so FREE! That's when the night job felt like a HUGE burden.  What made me realize I needed to quit the night job as soon as possible is when I failed to read my son's black belt testing schedule right.  I was tired. I was worn out. The brain was no longer functioning.  I've been off my night job for almost two weeks! I took 3 days off from my day job just to rest and do some things that NEEDED to be done! I have recommitted to my weight loss.

Here's the question: What good am I to God if I'm tired all the time?  There is a reason God rested on the 7th day! He doesn't slumber nor sleep. Why did He rest? To set the example for us!  We are human and need the rest but ...

*Spiritual. We can't do anything without God's help!  Without that special time with God each day where we are feeding on His Word, drinking in His company through the Body of Believers; we become weak. We need nourishment that can only come from God!  Jesus wasn't joking when He did Communion with His close friends.  "Here's my body, take and eat"  Jesus is the Word of God, we have to devour Him!  Dive into His teachings and feast on every word!  "Here is my blood, take and drink"  Jesus is the Living Rock from which the Living Water flows.  To get refreshed, we much drink Him in!

If Jesus were to ask me how I read this particular piece of Bread, I'd have to say it means God wants to be my EVERYTHING! He wants to be my heart beat, He wants to be my soul mate, He wants to be my muscle.

Matthew 7:24-25
24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

Deuteronomy 6:5
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

My Rock, My Refuge!

Think of two people your and thankful for and why. :)

O Lord, my God! You alone are my Rock! You alone are my Salvation! You are my Fortress where I wait quietly before You. My sweet Refuge!

My Jesus, sometimes I am shaken. When the bills pile up around me; the car fails to start; I study and still don't make the grade ... When things seem bleak because I can't see how You are using "this" for Your glory, yeah, I worry. I become anxious. Jesus, I don't want to be shaken! Give me the grace I need to get through each trial. May I truly discover You are my Refuge!

I have an offering of Thanks! I am thankful to You for 1) ______________ because ____________;   2)___________ because _____________.

(Here's mine! To share ... 1) my mother because she has always been supportive of me; 2) my sister, Jane, because You used her to bless my children in so many ways. I'm so thankful for these two wonderful women!! They are precious gifts from You!!)

Jesus, we pray together for _____.  We pray Your Spirit will lead ____ to wait quietly before You. May ___ come to know You as his/her refuge! May ___ and us trust You at all times. May we each pour out our hearts to You daily for those You are seeking to save. In Your name, Jesus, Amen

Psalm 62:1-8
I wait quietly before God,
for my victory comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will never be shaken.

So many enemies against one man—
all of them trying to kill me.
To them I’m just a broken-down wall
    or a tottering fence.
They plan to topple me from my high position.
They delight in telling lies about me.
They praise me to my face
but curse me in their hearts. Interlude

Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken.
My victory and honor come from God alone.
He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.
O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him,
for God is our refuge. Interlude

There Is No Rock Like Our God!

In today's prayer, there will be a blank in the Thanksgiving section. Think about a person or people, or thing(s) and put those in that blank!

My heart rejoices in You, Lord! You make me strong! No one is holy like You! There is no one who compares to You!! There is no Rock like our God!

Lord, I desire to love You with all my heart. May my heart beat to the rhythm of Your heart. May my heart be a heart filled with gratitude!

Thank You, Jesus, for ___________________! You desire good for me and these are certainly GOOD gifts! Thank You for being so generous!

Lord Jesus, we join each other in prayer today. Even though we don't know the names we are putting into the blanks, we join together in agreement for those we love and for the ones we don't like. Each name IS precious to You! In Your name, Jesus, we pray ____ will love You with all his/her heart. May _____'s heart beat to the song You desire. Be ____'s firm foundation! For there is no one else who can compare to You! You are solid and reliable! As we go about our day, may Your Spirit bring to our minds others You desire us to pray for. In Your name, Jesus, Amen

1 Samuel 2:1-2

Then Hannah prayed:

“My heart rejoices in the LordThe Lord has made me strong. Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me. No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.

Deuteronomy 6:5 (We'll use this one a few days!)

And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.

"No Greater Love" the movie

I watched this movie today. I got it in the mail through Netflix. I'm going to buy it.

Jeff is a non-Christian man. He has been raising his son, Ethan, on his own for 10 years. Heather is the wife/mom who left. She was battling depression. She left when Ethan was 10 months old. While away, she meets Jesus through a woman who showed her compassion.

Heather is a worker in her church. Ethan is one of the kids attending a "VBS" at the church. She doesn't know Ethan and he doesn't know her. As Jeff and his lady friend are leaving the program, Jeff and Heather see each other. And the journey begins!

Even though the Jeff character is a non-Christian, the character embodies a LOT of God's qualities. There's a twist in the plot. Jeff never filed for a divorce when Heather vanished! When he discovers the Bible loop hole of a believer is to remained married to the non-believer, he gets a little cocky. He wants his wife back! But then there's a shift. He only wants her if she truly wants to be with him out of love and not a Bible technicality.

My favorite scene is Jeff talking to his friend. He says something like ... I don't want her coming back feeling shackled to me ... It's something like that.

THAT is God! That is how God feels about us!! He loves us and wants us so much but He's not willing to force us to choose Him! He wants us to choose Him willingly. He wants us to know He desires our hearts, not just an automated "yes dear, whatever you say dear" machine. He doesn't want to shackle us to Him. He wants to be our wall of protection. He wants to defend us. He wants to bless us with His joy, peace, and provision. He doesn't want us to His slaves ... He wants us to be His children.

I don't recommend anyone going through a divorce to watch this movie. It is just a movie! Not everyone gets a Christian fairy tale ending. I will say the story IS NOT beyond God's capability! No, God can do for people what happens in this movie. With that said, I don't want to spoil the movie's ending!

It's well done! Jeff's character has duel roles as does Heather's. Role 1) Jeff represents God and Heather represents the wayward wife. Role 2) Jeff is the non-believer and Heather is the praying wife.

Jesus the Compassionate Shepherd

Jesus,
You had compassion on me! You saw me as someone lost, confused, and helpless. Seeing me in such a state, You took pity on me! You wanted to help me! You are COMPASSIONATE!

Lord, I want to see people the exact same way! I pray Your Holy Spirit will give me eyes to see past a person's faults and love them as You love them. May my heart be filled with sympathy and may I be an encourager.

I thank You, Jesus, that Your love knows no limit and Your grace can't be measured. Thank You for becoming my Shepherd! "I once was lost but now I'm found," THANK YOU!

Jesus, _____ lives in a dark world, be his/her Shepherd.  May _____ not be confused and helpless because of Your unfailing love and deep compassion for him/her.  Lord, there are many lost in need of compassion! May we be the ones You use to show compassion! As a new school year begins, use each of us to be Your love to these kids. May we pray for them without fail! Lord, love each mother's child as if he/she the only one on Earth!  Be with the sons/daughters in the military. Wrap Your arms of compassion around their mothers.  Be with the sons/daughters who are homeless, lost, broken, held captive by mental illness, trapped by Satan's lies that they'll never be worth loving; YOUR heart breaks for these!! May we be Your compassion! In Your name, Jesus. Amen

Scripture Reference: Matthew 9:36

(NLT) When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

(NKJV) But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

God is Patient (Thank Him So!!)

My Very Patient God,

You ARE Amazing! You are not a dictator who forces me into Your service. You are filled with unfailing love. Like a kind love, You wait for me to come to You.

Lord, forgive me for trusting in things of this world. (Think of what you trust in because this is about to become very Vivian!) For me, food, especially sugary food, has been my comfort. The chocolate god has always proven a quick fix to anxiety, anger, frustration, stress. I want this to change! You are the faithful God! I so desire to learn to wait for Your help. May Your Spirit guide me in these times of human weakness to pray, to wait on You!

Thank You for being so compassionate!  Thank You for Your love!! Love that doesn't demand anything of me, and that waits for me to realize You are the best choice! Thank You for Your kindness! Thank You for Your patience!

Lord, show _____ Your love and compassion. We pray _____ will wait for Your help and learn to trust You! Lord Jesus, may we as Your Body trust You and wait for You!  May we seek Your guidance over each detail of our lives. May we love as You have loved us. May we show compassion to each other as You are compassion. May we each live surrendered to Your perfect will. In Your name, Jesus, Amen

Scripture Reference: Isaiah 30:18

(NLT) So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.

(NKJV) Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him.

God is Good to ALL His Creation!

God of Heaven and Earth,

You are compassionate and merciful! You are good to everyone, both sinner and saint. You shower compassion on ALL Your creation!

Lord, forgive me for judging o harshly the people I encounter. No matter who they are or what they have done, You love them and desire a relationship with them!  Even the ones on the news, I do not desire to judge them. Only You are the righteous Judge! May my heart be dead to self righteousness and alive with Your compassion!

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me compassion!  When I think about the cross, THAT should have been me!! The Law demands a blood sacrifice; it demands death! You gave up Your throne. You gave up being omnipotent. You gave up command of Heaven's Army. For what? For me! You were mocked. Hunted down. You walked dusty roads. Then You were tortured. Nailed to a wooden cross like a criminal. You were (are) innocent!  I am the guilty one! I'm the criminal! You took my place! Thank You for Your compassion!

Father, be good to _____.  We know You will!! Show Your compassion on _____, for he/she is Your creation!  Oh, God! May we each be instruments of Your compassion.  May we be a light to those stumbling around in darkness.  May we be joy makers to those who are drowning in sorrow.  May we be Your arms of love to everyone! May we be Jesus to someone today.  In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen

Scripture Reference: Psalm 145:8-9 (NLT)

The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.  The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.

God is Slow to Anger!

AGod, You are Compassionate!

You are merciful! You are slow to anger.  When You finally arrive at "I Am mad", You don't stay that way forever! You are filled with unfailing love and You do not constantly accuse me! Your compassion is AMAZING!

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray Your Holy Spirit searches me through out this day. Take in consideration my actions and words.  Do they testify to You being the compassionate God?  Does my attitude reflect the mercy You have shown me? Lord, judge me accordingly and correct me. I desire to be a woman who shows compassion.

Thank You for not dealing with me harshly! You do not punish me for all my sins!!  Thank You for Your grace covering the things I do out of ignorance; the things I don't do out of fear. You recognize I am human with many weaknesses: tired, hunger, illness, etc. Thank You for being so gentle and tender with me!!

Lord, we come to You on behalf of _____.  Lord, be compassionate with _____ and slow to anger with him/her.  Do not punish _____ for his/her actions nor deal harshly with him/her. Shower _____ with Your unfailing love which will draw _____ to trust You. We know this IS Your will! You don't desire a single member of the human race to be lost for eternity. It breaks Your heart when a soul refuses Your love.  Lord, may we be Your hands of compassion! In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Scripture Reference: Psalm 103:8-14 (NLT)

The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He will not constantly accuse us,
 nor remain angry forever.
He does not punish us for all our sins;
he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.
For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west.
The Lord is like a father to his children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
For he knows how weak we are;
he remembers we are only dust.
